  • Tiger Woods injured in crash, jaws of life were used to rescue him

    • Golf superstar Tiger Woods was injured Tuesday morning in Los Angeles when his car crashed and rolled over, authorities said.
    • Woods, who was the only person in the car, was "extricated from the wreck with the 'jaws of life' by Los Angeles County firefighters and paramedics, then transported to a local hospital by ambulance for his injuries," that county's sherriff's department said in a tweet.

Multiple leg injuries. Just had minor back surgery a few weeks ago to remove disc fragments compressing a nerve.

I doubt we'll ever see Tiger play another round of golf professionally.

The compound fracture itself can be overcome as witnessed by Alex Smith of Washington. However, the screws and pins required in the ankle and whether any bone fusion took place may be what sidelines his career.

When you look at his vehicle, it looks like the jaws of life wasn’t used. Another example of botched reporting of the news. Regardless, I hope he fully recovers though his golf career may be over.

From the interview with attending personnel, they corrected the reporting (error was due to sheriff's department misspeaking) to reflect they used a pry bar and axe to remove the windshield.

The compound fracture by itself is that long.

His rehab is gonna be a whole lot longer than 6 months. Listened to a sports medicine guy talk about it - said right now he's likely just having surgeries to set up future surgeries. When my father-in-law broke his leg (not compound fracture bad, but bad no less) it took him over a year just to be able to walk unassisted. He obviously doesn't have Tiger's resources but he did nothing but rehab his leg for over a year.

Tiger will heal and probably be able to walk as normal but it's going to take...a long time.

Think nearly Alex Smith timeframe. Working in Woods' favor is his financial resources and that he was extremely fit.

Problem is that he'll be pushing 50 by the time he's healed. That ain't what it used to be with athletes, but he's no spring chicken.
