  • GROCERY PRICES

I cook a lot. For 2 of us, the grocery bill has gotten noticeably higher. Can’t imagine feeding teens. Especially boys. I find myself not buying some stuff I want, but don’t need. Buying fast food with coupons is cheaper. Rant over 🙂

We have to feed two teens. Luckily one of them eats like a bird and the other eats like a moose...but he eats with his girlfriend's family sometimes so that gets us off the hook.

We've been doing Hello Fresh for about a year. It isn't cheaper (not even close) but it does knock out the Great Question of "What we eatin' for dinner?" that seems to plague families. Two nights a week we've got a ready-to-prepare meal, and they're often very good. The downshot is that it's $85 a week for something you could probably do for half that if you bought from the store. (The ingredients in Hello Fresh are indeed fresher most of the time.)

A person could definitely eat fast food seven nights a week for cheaper than cooking for a family of four, and that's sad.

We started Hello Fresh in October. Was getting 3 meals a week. Is nice to have it all measured out. Now I am doing 2 meals a week. Sometimes skip. But nice to have a Go To and my favs are the sheet pan dinners. Easy cleanup

I can do the sheet pan stuff on my own which is awesome. Probably the first meals I've ever cooked outside simple little stuff like tacos, which a toddler could do.

I also did their (really good) tomato sausage soup a couple weeks ago. Tasty.

They also have a really good chicken noodle soup. However we went to Kroger, got the ingredients, kept Hello Fresh's recipe card, and cooked our own soup for probably $20+. The Hello Fresh version was twice that. (We're cooking for four people which increases Hello Fresh prices.)

My wife and I were invited to dinner back in the day by a couple who had three teenage boys. They ate more in that one meal than the two of us would eat in a week. Never seen anything like it.

Me and a good friend of mine talk about how expensive everything, not just groceries, is these days. We can't figure out how families with average, or a little above average, incomes and three or four hh members, and don't qualify for govt. assistance, are getting by.

I have a friend who has 2 HS boys and one that has 8th grade triplets. 2 boys and a girl. Their grocery bills are literally astronomical. Hoping prices come down. Fortunately for us, we like veggies. An all veggie meals is reasonable. We just bought a small box freezer. When meat/chicken goes on sale or find good buys at Sams or Costco, will purchase and freeze.

When we moved into the Forum at Brookside, everything changed. We buy very few groceries. All our meals are cooked for us and the food here is great. We have the best soup we ever tasted, 3 entrees to choose and 4 vegetables to choose from. And dessert which includes the best ice cream I've tasted since we had homemade. Phyllis hasn't cooked in a year and a half, and the only meal we eat out is Sunday dinner.

I have eaten low carb for years because of so much diabetes on my Father’s side including him and my sister. Don’t do as well as I should. Good thing I like meat, cheese and eggs. Also veggies.

My wife and I had Freddy's in Shepherdsville the other day. Two grilled chicken sandwiches and two shakes, nothing crazy. $25. We used to be able to eat at Texas Roadhouse not even 10 years ago for that.

I'm also a regular occupant at Roosters in Fern Creek and my wife serves part time. Ten boneless wings are now $15. Outrageous.

As far as I can tell, there's no such thing as an affordable meal these days. Fast food, sit down or eat at home, it's all expensive.

I agree...we ususally eat out once a week but the rest of the time I cook......just 2 of us and my grocery bill has doubled

We went to the Cheesecake Factory yesterday for our daughters birthday. Because we don't want to bring leftovers home anymore, Phyllis and I shared a salad, a shrimp and chicken entre and strawberry shortcake. Our bill with tip was $70. Won't go there anymore.

Cheesecake Factory has never been a fave of mine. I go once a year because my Gal Pal group always has lunch there Derby week. I could care less and wish we would go somewhere else
