Glad they went down there and be UT. Good win. Did not hear why Wheeler was out but probably just as well that he was. He is fun sometimes but heck he just likes to dribble and dribble. Glad that part was missing. I will wait for highlights to see how the game was played. Slow for sure.

After that South Carolina game I had zero hope for today. They overcame some bad calls at the end and hit their free throws and played good defense.
I know we want to say that we should never be that happy after beating UT, but after the last few weeks I actually love seeing them guys being excited and celebrating with their coach.Comment

Don't understand our fan bases near obsession with Wheeler. Could we have used him today, heck yes. We basically played this game with no point guard, Wallace hurt or not was horrible, 0 points 5 turnovers repeated blow bys. Theiro is serviceable but not an answer as poi t is NoT his best spot on this team. The thing we did learn was we need to play Reeves and CJ at the same time, whoever is at the point.It was a great win but not IMO a game that shows we have solved our problems especially on offense.Comment

I was able to watch the end of the game at the restaurant and man was it sweet. Thanks for the well wishes! The officials had a tough game to call and I thought they were right way more times than they were wrong. They missed the walk, and I couldn't get a good look at the fragrant. Both teams got away with a lot of contact especially inside. Oscar could have easily fouled out.

Sometimes those bad plays are because he's put in unwinnable situations by his teammates or because of the sets Cal's running. When he ends up with the ball dribbling against the shot clock, that's not on him. That's just a bad play design and/or we haven't run it the correct way.
He gets similar treatment to the kind Andrew Harrison and Marquis Teague got. Those guys tended to seemingly be not "in" the game at times. Wheeler has that disposition on the court. He's an unusual player.
His defense has fallen off a cliff this year. I think that's one of the main reasons we won. I've noticed Wheeler quits on some plays, which is not good if you're the guy hawking the ball. He also is victimized by the fact that this team has a terrible habit of not communicating, and Oscar in particular is not a good help defender. On normal teams your guards can funnel their defender inside. With this team if you get in the paint you're usually scoring on us.
So it's a combination of things. I think he's been unfairly dragged at times, but I also think he's been really bad in some games. His free throw percentage is indicative of a player who isn't in the game 100%.Comment
