  • Duke Loses After Controversial No-Call

I actually think this was a good no-call. Looked like the player had no idea Duke's guy was standing behind him.

Hate when a controversial call at the end of a game can make a difference in the outcome

That isn’t controversial. There’s nothing there imo.

I watched the replay 5 times and there was nothing there to call. It's only controversial because a coach wanted it to be.

It was called correctly and was a wonderful outcome. VT was 1-7 in conference before I he game.

He clearly pulled his hand back extremely quickly when he realized he was hitting him.

That guy might have a career in boxing as quick as the fist bump was, almost looks like a phantom hit to me. Now if that was Oscar, it would've been a flagrant 2 and he would've been suspended for 5 games because that Dookie's head would've flown off.

If Coach K had still been their coach, that’s a Flagrant 2 and the player would have been suspended for several games 😀

I don't think it was intentional but put your shoes in Duke's. If a UK player had gotten punched like that, people would be screaming bloody murder... Actually, I almost feel like you have to call it based on contact regardless of intent. Similar how a defender accidentally may fall into a punter/QB and get an interference/roughing call.

Didn't something similar happen to UK several years back. It wasn't a punch. Wasn't it Humphries or someone that slammed the ball on the ground and it hit another player and a flagrant 1 was called... I can't recall if the ball hit someone or if it was just called a tech.

Yeah I don't think it hit anyone, I think Humphries just slammed the ball in frustration and got a technical foul called on him that wound up costing us the game.

The difference with the Humphries thing and this is that there was a rule against what Humphries did. This was a gesture in the air you're allowed to do by rule, and obviously guys do it all the time. Just so happened somebody was standing right there.

Seem to remember it being in celebration. Not that it matters.

As I was watching the replay, I questioned whether the actor was even hit. I base that on the delayed reaction of the actor.

Lighthouse, what about the flagrant 1 that was just called at the end of the UNC at Syracuse game? I wondered if the offensive foul originally was a bad call, but they upgraded it to a flagrant 1 when the offensive player’s elbow caught the defender’s cheek as the offensive player attempted to side-step him in order to get to the basket.

It just seems like they are giving every advantage to defense allowing no movement for offense. Just my opinion.
