  • Rajon Rondo May Join Coaching Staff in '23-'24

Would be an interesting addition. Rondo is a genius but he's been known to be a tough personality.

Looks like we are getting my guy next year on this coaching staff, perhaps the best move Calipari has ever made. Basketball genius NBA Champion and knows the league the players and everything you need to know,Rod Strickland x 100 in my opinion and he can relate to these young kids..

If you want to talk about who replaces Calipari down the road,( premature yes)Rondo is my guy, happy for him and glad he's back where he belongs..

As for personality, misunderstood in my opinion. He holds people accountable to do there job, especially a coach who's calling plays but doesn't even know his own playbook..

This is probably true. It's true about a lot of people, particularly celebrities.

I'm going off two things I heard.

One is the journalist Matt May saying that Rondo was the worst person he'd ever had to interview at UK.

Another is a situation I was in back in Tubby's last year. We went to his coaches' clinic and were talking to a UK manager. It was just me, my buddy, and this manager down in the bottom of Memorial (he was showing us to the vending machine). My buddy asked him what the problem had been in Tubby's next-to-last year and he immediately said, "Rondo. Everybody hated him."

But you know you're talking about an early 20-something back then. Also he was kind of a superstar in a pretty bad situation. I'm sure the guy has changed.

It's not a complete misunderstanding. I've only had three direct interactions with him, and all three were absolutely awful.

His NBA teammates have always had the same to say regarding Rondo: glad to have him on the court with me, eeeh on the locker room.

He might be a good guy, I can't say otherwise... but his reputation jibes with my experience.

I taught Rajon's aunt in class one semester at Jefferson Community College. She looked dead up like him. Imagine a female Rajon Rondo and you've got this woman. Swear to God.

That will really help morale... He has a great reputation for connecting with other players.
              Aspirational...

I'm cautiously optimistic about this. On one side there's a player who can do things on the court that only he can do. A Great player! On the other side is a kid in a man's body who evidently has trouble relating to others. Never, and I repeat Never should he ever be even remotely considered being Kentucky's HC.

As for perception, no different than sleezy Memphis John Calipari...

I'll just say this, off the Court Pitino and big time boosters like Papa John are probably the most arrogant "A" holes i ever met in my life , they make Rondo look like a Priest..Still Pitino is and will always be my favorite Kentucky coach, he held people accountable and he got things done, all I care about.

We will see what happens, now I wonder if Bronny James ends up at Kentucky? Personally I pass on that but we will see...

As for the locker room teammates perception of Rondo, I'm sure he did rub some wrong in the NBA. If you was showing up everyday to collect a check not caring about winning or losing not putting in the extra work to get better, more than likely it was a problem to Rondo, again accountability. KG was one of the most intense NBA player in history, you just don't earn his respect. Second year Rondo was the X factor Boston winning a title in 08..

As for Kentucky, a chip on the shoulder Rondo with something to prove hurt Pitino kicked him to the curve, I can see how a young person would retaliate, especially after they rented him a apartment and took care of him at Eastern prepping him to play at U of L, big turn of events, still think he was wrong with the Sparks situation...

Did he get his domestic issues worked out with his wife? Pretty scary IF true. Would love to have him here.

I hadn't heard about this. Googled. It was "settled" but sounds like there was a payment made.

Rod Strickland had had some pretty major issues before coming here and he was on the staff for a few years. So it's possible. But definitely something that UK is probably a little concerned about.

Hopefully Ulis will be on staff next year as well. I Iike the idea of having 2 fierce competitors on the sidelines and in practice with Rondo and Ulis.

I have a hard time believing that Rajon Rondo and Tyler Ulis could occupy the same space at the same time.

                            Seems like a timebomb lol

Not that anyone asked, but if I had to pick one, I’m taking Ulis every day of the week.
