Pitino A+ If and only if he had stayed, no doubt in my mind players like Brand Avery Maggette maybe Dirk McGrady plays for UK, hard to imagine the records he could have broke and Championships. As we all know Championships are not given even with the best players and team on paper but he would have had us in great position year in year out in my opinion.

Rupp A Never saw him coach so i don't know but he did win, resume' speaks for itself

Hall B+ borderline A, injuries to key players may have cost him towards the end

Calipari B+ Let the hate begin. Not the greatest X's and O's guy has recruited World wide talent but what went wrong? The college basketball landscape changed with One and Done then came the Transfer Portal followed by NIL. I hate the ONE AND DONE but if it wasn't Cal, players would gone elsewhere and checked out regardless, CAL was out in front of all this and it showed early on in his Kentucky coaching career. If 2015 is different via his fault or players fault, A minimum, dude was on the verge of going 40-0 in today's game with all the stuff going on, that is pretty remarkable itself, just didn't go our way. The Herro team was peaking at the right time, could have made major noise. If Meeks comes back and plays with Wall and Cousins, perhaps another great team for the ages..

Smith B Great coach great person just fell short on the recruiting trail. I do give him credit for 98 not so much for he did but for what he didn't do, he let Rick's guys play the system they knew how to play and it paid off. Of course he gets credit for making the right calls especially against Duke down 17 with 9 to go, that was all Tubby Smith making the right calls...

Sutton C Man can coach but i don't know what went on and if it was all on him or what, Had good players like Eric Manual, Ellis, Kemp, Mills( I think memory bad brain freeze) Chapman, could have been good but glad he actually failed because if he had been successful, no Rick Pitino so THANK YOU Sutton for all that...

Gillispie F Remember driving listening to Billy's G's press conference when he was first hired, i thought man this guy is going to do alright and fit right in, had me fooled. Probably a better coach than his record suggest but seems like the money, the fame, the big time spotlight ignited his demons and addictions into his downfall, man was partying like it was 1999 for two years, nobody wants to play for a hung over Bobby Knight, especially not in these days. Dude may have watched to much FULL METAL JACKET in the late 80's, he was running a full blown assault boot camp at Kentucky, somebody had to know, not sure why it took two years???

I’ll give Joe B an A because of the historical difficulty of following a true legend. Only won one title. Might even say he choked one or 2 away. But in my childhood years I ALWAYS felt like we had a real shot at it. To do that on the heels of a legend is quite rare.

I do wonder how he would have adapted to the 3 pt line. But doesn’t matter. He didn’t have to. I just wonder if he would’ve let the Troy McKinley’s of the world shoot more. Seemed like that guy couldn’t miss from the corner but was only allowed to shoot once about every other game. Why shoot a long 2 when Kenny was patrolling the paint? Made sense I suppose.

                          Fair.

If Cal came back next year and magically, miraculously won a title with that bunch then his grade obviously skyrockets. Two titles outdoes Pitino, obviously, and that would count for a lot.

It could go the other way too of course. If our roster dissolves and we're back here talking about all that went wrong with the team, he dips down even further into the Billy Gillispie morass.

                          Honestly, neither would surprise me.

A turnaround would surprise me more than a disaster.

Cal is suffering from the same thing that took Tubby down. Commitment to on-court philosophy that was broken, failure to get and retain enough top talent, and getting sick of the whole thing.
