^ Spirit, as we move toward an era with a new athletic director, I think that’s exactly the decision that’s going to be made. That’s part and parcel why I’ve been so aggravated with our results recently, because I see basketball taking spot Forum at the table in the future.

I do wonder if people are overcomplicating this a little bit. There's probably a lot to say about Cal and whether he's at the end of the line...but just on the surface I kinda believe that what's happened with Kentucky has happened simply because of really bad timing plus these freshmen. It's also Cal's insistence that he isn't going to tinker with players' decisions, so that's a big part of it too.
But like Matt Dillon said above you've got the freshmen wanting that PT and thus driving away potential portal players. And you've got the bad timing of having older players who are borderline NBA guys--or wannabe NBA guys, which is the same thing. So it's like a double whammy.
I don't want to say there aren't systemic things going on, but I mostly believe we just fell into a tough situation based on the incoming and outgoing roster and it's probably going to burn us pretty bad. Not being able to keep virtually anybody in the program is like a festering wound that's going to poison the entire body at some point...and here we are.

We lost our pipeline of the truly elite prospects for a few years and the efflux of talent could no longer be offset, and now we're a program that's for hardly anybody. We have to figure out how to keep some of these players here better than we have been if we're going to assemble rosters that don't have glaring holes in them.

We did need the COVID rule to help us out a couple years ago. But the difference between now and the last four or five seasons is we have more 5-star players, which is likely helping to drive away some of the portal players. And we have more borderline returners, which is exacerbating the whole thing. It was a weird roster to begin with and now it's somehow weirder.
You have to see the potential of this coming though if you're Cal. You gotta start hitting the portal early and get in with guys the way he did with somebody like Reid Travis. Because now it's a matter of attrition. He's got to pull a rabbit out right now and even the best magicians run out of rabbits at a certain point.

While Mitch has been slow to move on the NIL thing, I suspect a bigger part of the problem is the fact that Mitch and Cal are as compatible as oil and water. In my opinion, a new men's bb coach or a new A.D. would solve a lot of the problems."There is so much good in the worst of us, and so much bad in the best of us, that it behooves us all not to talk about the rest of us." How about Cal just walk into Bellarmine like Vince McMahon and offer them all scholarships. Just tell them to bring the playbook and keep running what they been running under Davenport, problem solved....
This is a complete joke. I don't know what the "real word" is on the streets in regards to Calipari and the Kentucky program as a whole or what other coaches tell recruits behind closed doors but whatever it is it's working. I don't see players at Kentucky who play hard or in my opinion respect Calipari for his abilities, just more of a one year camp to get to the league as soon as possible. For a while it worked Kentucky players would get drafted just because it was Kentucky but i think that new has worn off already, players don't get developed and some get parked on the bench in the dog house if your not a Calipari favorite, just a complete mess. I am all in for a complete reboot AD and Head Basketball coach, time to build a new culture at Kentucky, this isn't working. Even if we won it all this year, would be Fool's gold in my opinion, it's still a broken system duck taped ready to crash year in year out......
