  • NCAA makes massive decision on transfer rules

The transfer portal has absolutely blown up in recent years, with many players seeking better opportunities due to the emergence of NIL deals. However, those who are looking to transfer for a second time in their career may have trouble doing so.

Could affect Wheeler. Lot of smoke that he's wanting out, and I can't say that I blame him. He might be able to claim mental health to get his waiver.

So - just skimming that article seems that guys can pretty much only transfer 1 time freely and then for ANY reason, can't transfer again. Most transfers are due to about 5 things - playing time, NIL, coaching changes, lost scholarship money, and sometimes just moving closer to home. So for most of those reasons, a waiver would be declined. Hmmm...

Can still get a waiver for "reasons related to a student athlete's physical or mental health or well-being". I can see a lot of that still happening. The NCAA probably won't want to get into the business of deciding whose mental health issues are real vs whose are fabricated. I know I sure wouldn't.

It pains me, but I agree with them too.

I'll believe it when the NCAA has actually denied multiple waiver request.

I don't think I do agree totally with it... Let's say someone wants to change their major and transfer to a school that specializes in that. Why can't an athlete do that - other students are able. Same with if for some reason your athletic scholarship is pulled. What if you can't afford to financially be at that school without that but another school is willing to give you one.

I guess it all depends. Maybe do a penalty like before, you have to sit... So, first transfer - free and do it for whatever reason. Second transfer - you can go but you have to sit a year.

How will they determine the mental aspect of it? Tough to understand a person’s mental health.

I have a mental health issue after watching Kentucky this year. Am I eligible?

I have issues every time I hear run, run, run or go, go, go.

I’m going to go out on a limb and say someone is going to challenge this. Knowing the NCAAs record in recent challenges they’ll lose. Genie is out of the bottle.

It boils down to NIL and who can buy the best roster, good move by the NCAA on this. The way it's going, no different than a NBA off-season
