Denny Crum was the very best College Coach I was ever on the court with. He knew the Rule Book better than any Coach, and it paid off for him. Does anybody remember Coach Crum ever getting a Technical? He only got a couple because he was a gentleman on and off the court. As a Kentucky Fan, I will treasure my friendship with Denny Crum.

A fine coach, arguably a great one. I think most of us were hoping he would take UCLA as a Wooden kid....but he loved Louisville.

Great man and a fierce competitor on the gold course. First time we met and played golf i asked him if he had watched the Lakers and Minnesota playoff game the night before during the Garnett Marbury era, he gave a short answer and made it clear he wasn't there to chat basketball and understandable so, everyone was wanting his autograph etc. For me the golf course was my world and after a that brief little exchange, i had a mindset that i was going to kick his you know what and stomp his a double s this day, i don't like Louisville anyway, never have. After about 9 holes of us riding together side by side little conversation, he finally opened up and i had gained his respect, we became friends that day and would later go on to play many rounds of golf over the years. After the event Coach Crum asked me for my phone number and would call me up if he needed a extra in a golf scramble. We never talked basketball again and i never asked for a autograph and all that jazz, we just played the game and competed. Coach was a fierce competitor on the court, on the course and even throwing darts..

Well said, great individual. I am such a die hard Kentucky fan that i never looked at him as the LEGENDARY HALL OF FAME basketball coach, just another man who liked to compete and win, enjoyed my time with him as well, actually changed my hatred towards the University of Louisville. I still don't root for Louisville but i don't root against them if they are playing someone else, being around Crum lowered the temperature for me....Originally posted by Lighthouse View PostComment
