In all seriousness, the surest sign that a player is.... "underwhelming", is when you have to post reminders such as this.

Not that it's necessarily bad to emphasize these rules, but the act is an admission in and of itself when in context to its inspiration for reintroduction.

The reminder has nothing to do with Skal. This is something that's been talked about for months and months.

And it's really not a huge deal, at least in my mind, but when you have members complain a refresher of what we're about seems to be in order.

But, as always, it's a fine line. We have to be able to criticize on boards like this or else nobody comes. I think though that it's important to pay attention to the tone of that criticism.

I have been a moderator for other sites, have turned down the opportunity to be a mod many times since then. I am a terrible mod because I really don't care. I am a member of another board (not UK related) where there are a few basic rules about cursing, racist remarks etc but basically whatever you say will stand without edit. Its actually not as bad as you might think. Like I said there are basic rules so total control isn't lost but minor things are left to stand. A member can delete their own post but mods generally do not. This is great when someone acts like an idiot and you can just leave it there for the world to see. .

It's all a matter of taste but I can't imagine running a board like this.

One, there are all kinds of legal issues you could run into. And two, you engender a real distrust (at best) or a disgust (at worst) between factions of your membership.

The best mods I've ever seen are those that kind of know where the line is drawn, but they mostly stay invisible. But when it's time to take action they have to take action. Just letting a post stand because it's idiotic doesn't work most of the time because those posters just keep coming back and causing more chaos. I was a member of a pretty huge writing board once and they had some incredible things go on, including an instance once where one of their common posters came to the board to announce that his wife had been murdered...and then he became a suspect.

You can't let boards that large go unmoderated IMO or members start hating each other. You can see that happening over on the big UK boards, and it's really disappointing to watch.

I have also seen the other side of it: mods who want to touch everything. That's worse.

Yea, I have seen both types of mods, the place Im talking about is not like this. Its a section of a larger site and its mostly political so you can imagine the conversations. I have been there over ten years and finally got out of it as its a useless waste of time. If anything the politics there have gotten more divided. I think this site runs about like it needs to.

If people were watching some NBA games they would probably see some mistakes very similar to goofs college players make--college guys not getting paid millions to make theirs--stick with it guys---I would prefer ten to one to watch a good collegegame than the NBA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The mods here are top notch, and are a special type crew in that they participate in the give and take WITHOUT pulling rank. That's appreciated.

We are kind of in a flux stage of basketball fandom...with a part of the posters here missing the program
As we thought it used to be vs the new generations that have much more recent memories and theories of what makes the game better. As time goes on I imagine the site will gradually pick up new, exciting posters while some fade away to other interests.
